Az első cikk megírása óta eltelt pár hónap és ez idő alatt munkafolyamataim és a hozzáállásom is megváltozott. Továbbra is a kanapé az alkotás helyszíne és az iskolai tevékenységek, mint cikkek írása és gyűjtése élveznek előnyt az összes többi teendővel szemben. Játékok, Twitter, Facebook stb. igencsak másodlagosak lettek, illetve ez utóbbiak kezelése nem okoz problémát egyik rendszeren sem. Pár hónapja iPad tulajdonos vagyok és (mint sokan mások) nem teljesen elégedett. Nagyon törtem a fejem az elégedetlenségem okán és erről rendszeresen hírt is adtam a Twitteren. Eleinte az eladás járt a fejemben, de végül úgy döntöttem, hogy nem adom fel és megpróbálom követni azt a vonalat, amit az Apple kitalált és nagyon keményen rám is erőltet. Nem volt bizalmam benne, de belevágtam.
Azóta kiderült, hogy az iPad a jelenlegi oprendszerrel is használható és a legtöbb problémát nem a képességeinek hiánya okozza, hanem a megváltozott munkafolyamat, ami szokatlan, de tanulható. Erre egyszerűen rákényszerít az iOS. Röviden: megszoksz, vagy megszöksz. Az iPad a kisebb képernyőmérete okán egyetlen aktív munkafolyamat kezelésére alkalmas, tehát hatékonyabb rajta a munka, hiszen a push notifications kikapcsolása sokat segít a fókuszálásban. Erre vannak nagyon jó módszerek. Ilyen pl. a Pomodoro is, de ez már egy másik történet. Valószínűleg a pár hét múlva érkező 4.2-es iOS-ben található multitasking bevezetésével a fókuszálás egyre nehezebb lesz még ezen a pici képernyőn is.
A moduláris Mac létrehozására tett kísérleteim eredményeként létrejött helyzet több, mint kaotikus, de megpróbálom felvázolni. Arra hasonlít legjobban, mint amikor a könyvtárakra támaszkodó Windows rendszerből átálltam Spotlight alapokra és teljesen elfelejtettem mit hol tartok. Ez a mai napig is így van, de megszoktam, hogy nem kell tudnom mi hol található. A lényeg, hogy megvan. A Spotlight megmondja, akárcsak a Gmail a levelek esetében. Címkézni érdemes, de nem szükséges.
Tehát hazai aktív flotta három gépből áll. Egy iMac, ami a nappaliban van, egy 2008-as mára klasszikussá vált MacbookPro, valamint egy 3G iPad. Az iskolai anyagok az iMac-en vannak, illetve a DropBoxon azok, amelyeket legtöbbet használok. Ezeket a fájlokat elérem mindhárom gépről a neten keresztül (köszi DropBox!), illetve a belső hálón meg vannak osztva egyes könyvtárak. Cikkeket (nem csak tudományos) szinte kizárólag az iPaden olvasok az Instapaper segítségével, illetve, ha az iskolai gyűjteményembe illik az anyag, akkor több helyre is rögzítem azt. Ez elsődlegesen az ingyenes Mendeley-t jelenti. Ha a feldolgozáshoz fontos, hogy bele tudjak írogatni a fájlokba, akkor az iAnnotate nevű alkalmazást is használom. Ebben szinte szabadon lehet írogatni a Pdf fájlokba, illetve kimásolni azokat az idézeteket, amelyeket később felhasználok. Mindegyik alkalmazásnak létezik desktop és iPad verziója, tehát nincsenek kompatibilitási gondok, vagy elveszett adatok. A Pages nem elég jó nekem, mivel a suliban hiába használnak sokan Mac-et, a használt formátum maradt az MS Word. iPad-en magyarul nem írok semmit, ezért csak akkor gépelek rajta, ha angolul írok. Ehhez a Pages tűnik a legjobbnak, de a megosztási képességeinek teljes hiánya miatt, inkább a PlainText a nyerő. Ezzel szintén a DropBox-ba tudom pakolni a fájlokat és később Office-ban véglegezni tudom őket.
Korábban egy Firefox kiterjesztést használtam, ami Zotero néven fut, de Mac-en sem vált be, iPad-en meg nem létezik egyelőre. Mások a Papers nevű alkalmazásra esküsznek, de az számomra szép, ugyanakkor üres GUI, semmi több. Ha esetleg lehetne Pagesbe átpakolni infókat az iPaden, akkor lenne érdekes. Sajnos nem ingyenes, így végképp kiesett a versenyből.
A legfontosabb fájlokat és információkat mára végleg átpakoltam a DropBox-ba. Sem a Google Docs, sem bármelyik másik cloud szolgáltatás nincs már képben. Így jött létre a moduláris Mac három, nem olcsó géppel.
Összegezve, a moduláris Mac nem a hardver szintjén létezik, hanem az alkotási folyamatban használt különböző szolgáltatások, azok megosztási képességei, a fájlok más és más gépeken történő használatában keresendő. A hardver mára szinte lényegtelenné vált.
Várhatóan a megosztási képességek, a gépelési lehetőségek hamarosan javulni fognak iPaden, amikor megjelenik az iOS 4.2, ami már magyar billentyűzetet is támogat.
